The Review:

Have you ever had one of those friends that you took for granted until something happened and you discover just how big a role that person plays in your life? Well in the Hundred Acre Wood where Winnie the Pooh lives, this gang of friends find out just how big a friend Piglet is to them. The whole gang is here, Winnie the Pooh and Tigger too (voice of Jim Cummings, The Jungle Book 2) Piglet (voice of John Fielder) of course, Rabbit (voice of Ken Sampson), Eeyore (voice of Peter Cullen) as well as Christopher Robin, Owl (Andre Stojka), Kanga (Kath Soucie) and Roo (Nikita Hopkins, The Santa Clause 2).

Pooh, Eeyore, Rabbit and Tigger are heading off somewhere and they are dressed a little weird. Well Tigger and Pooh look like a tree and Rabbit is carrying a violin. Piglet puts away his book of memories and follows them. It seems they have devised an elaborate plan to trick the bees out of the hive and move into a fake hive so they can steal the honey (hunny). Piglet wants to help, but they explain he is too little to be of any help and maybe next time. The plan does not go as diagramed and with the assistance of Piglet they do trap the bees in the fake hive and take the honey. As Pooh, Eeyore, Rabbit and Tigger all congratulate themselves they exclude Piglet from their success. A disappointed Piglet walks away hurt because he just wants to be of help. The bees eventually escape and the gang flees for their lives. They hide out in Piglet’s house and then they realize Piglet is not with them. They find his scrapbook and decide to follow each page of memories to locate their friend Piglet. It is on this journey they learn how big a role this little friend has held in all of their lives. This movie takes us through how Piglet helped Rabbit and Roo become friends. We take a journey to the North Pole with Christopher Robin and Piglet’s quick thinking saves Roo and how Eeyore gets his house on Pooh Corner.

As for a children’s movie it is pretty basic, but cute. I just love that Eeyore. You don’t have to be a child to be reminded that it is easy to overlook your friends and take them for granted. I thought Piglet’s Big Movie was sweet and delivered a good message for all.

These characters are based on A.A. Milne’s classic Winnie the Pooh stories. Brian Hohlfeld wrote this animated version while Carly Simon lent her singing and writing talents to the original music to complete this darling movie. I think parents will enjoy seeing this film with their kids, but I don’t recommend going out and seeing it alone. You can rent it later if you are a Pooh fan. So in parting I give Piglet’s Big Movie an eight on the About-Movies.com scale and look forward to Eeyore getting his own film soon.
