The Review:

With all that filibustering going on, it makes me want to have a hotdog. Well not really, but they sure did try to get all the mileage they could off that line. As much as I loved the first Legally Blonde, this one just does not measure up. In fact it doesn’t really qualify as a Legally Blonde sequel, it is more Politically Blonde. Elle (Reese Witherspoon, Sweet Home Alabama) spends all of fifteen minutes as an attorney before she heads to Washington to pitch her idea for an animal rights bill; so her dog Bruiser’s mother can attend her wedding.

Well, when we last saw Elle Woods she was graduating first in her class at Harvard Law, getting engaged to Emmett Richmond (Luke Wilson, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle), and getting ready to begin her career at a prestigious Boston law firm. Elle is now about to make partner, is thigh high in wedding plans, and discovers that Bruiser’s mom is a lab animal for V.E.R.S.A.C.E. and won’t be able to attend the wedding. So after blundering a power point presentation directed towards the partners to free Bruiser’s mom, the curmudgeon head of the firm fires Elle. So off she goes to Washington to get her bill passed and still plan her wedding.

Well true to form to the first Legally Blonde, Elle never becomes spiteful or mean and keeps that positive can do attitude. But is that enough for her charm to save a movie that really has little substance. Sally Field (Where the Heart Is) is Rep. Victoria Rudd who offers Elle the chance to get her bill put through, but her staff is not so enthusiastic. But never forget this is politics and no one or thing is what it appears. So Elle has her work cut out for her, but as Rudd once said, never underestimate a Harvard grad with a French manicure. And again I ask where does she find the time for all that grooming and still manage to get the job done? Also appearing in this Charles Herman-Wurmfeld film were Regina King (Daddy Day Care), Jennifer Coolidge, Bruce McGill (The Sum of all Fears), Dana Ivey, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Bob Newhart. I give snaps to Reese’s upbeat performance and consistence with the character, but with a sequel there is nothing left to surprise or captivate and if the story stinks, well then it just stinks. I gave Legally Blonde 2 a six on the About-Movies.com scale.

Outie.
