I
must confess, I never saw the 1976
version of Freaky Friday, with Jodie Foster (Panic
Room), but I am sure the classic doesn’t even come close to this
uproarious version of Freaky Friday. Jamie Lee Curtis (Tailor
of Panama) was boffo. She looked like she was having so much fun with this
role that watching her act out her rebellious teenage years with a credit card
was fabulous. Yeah, this concept has been done many times before with father and
son exchanging bodies, like Kirk Cameron’s film, Like
Father, Like Son with Dudley Moore as the father, but nothing compares to
the mother, daughter relationship. Annabell Coleman (Lindsay Lohan) is your stereotypical teenager. She wants to sleep late, wear trendy or look at me clothes. She has issues with her teachers and her younger brother. But most of all she is always at odds with her mom, Tess Coleman (Curtis). Now Tess is the stereotypical single mother. She is so busy with her own life that she doesn’t have time to really listen or understand her children. Tess doesn’t get how important music is to Anna and Anna doesn’t understand the rush for her mother to get married so soon after her father died. To add more pressure, Tess is getting married on Saturday and not everyone or every thing is falling into place. Then a little spell from a fortune cookie transfers mother and daughter into each other’s body until they can truly experience unselfish love. So while Mom gets to go back to high school and eat fast food, daughter gets the car, credit cards and the wedding plans. Not
only was this movie so much fun it offered a little bit for everyone. The
younger brother, the grandparent, the stepparent all get an unique perspective
on this quandary we call the mother/daughter relationship. Others appearing in
this Mark S. Waters movie were, Mark Harmon, Harold Gould (Master
of Disguise), Chad Murray, Stephen Tobolowsky, Christina Vidal, Ryan
Malgarini, Haley Hudson, and Julie Gonzalo. If you are looking for some fun and
a completely uninhibited performance, Freaky Friday will liven up your week,
with that said I rate this film a 10 on the About-Movies.com scale.
