The Review:

I am not sure if Biker Boyz is meant to be The Fast and The Furious on two wheels, but it sure is a rather odd coincidence that it is set in California and many of the bikes use nitrous oxide for an extra speed boost. That said, I never did see the The Fast and The Furious, so I do not know if the similarities end there. What I did see was a rather boring film about a bunch of motorcycle enthusiasts trying to become the King of Cali with some father-son Oedipus type issues thrown in.

The story begins with young Kid (Derek Luke, Antwone Fisher) watching and wanting to be a member of the Black Knights motorcycle club (don't confuse this with the horrible Martin Lawrence movie Black Knight). His father Tariq (Eriq La Salle, One Hour Photo) is a member of the Knights and is chief mechanic for the leader of the group, Smoke (Laurence Fishburne, The Matrix). Smoke is also the longtime reigning King of Cali as the top drag racer amongst all the bike riders. Before Kid can even become a full-fledged member, his father gets killed watching Smoke race some punk. This sends Kid even deeper into his motorcycle world as he now wants to be the best and become King himself. Eventually he starts his own bike club so that he can become legitimate and take on Smoke. In his gang to start with is the token white guy Stuntman (Brendan Fehr, The Forsaken) and other young gun Primo (Rick Gonzalez, The Rookie). So now Kid can get into some serious trouble while his mother (Vanessa Bell Calloway) tries to keep him away from the bikes. Of course she can’t, so she enlists old friend and biker-lawyer Soul Train (Orlando Jones, Drumline) plus old fling Smoke to assist in righting young Kid’s course. Meanwhile Kid wants to race everyone he can while trying to win the heart of Tina (Meagan Good). Add a bikini car wash, stir, and that about sums up Biker Boyz. Not a whole lot of substance to this Reggie Rock Bythewood directed film.

Others in the film are Djimon Hounsou, Lisa Bonet, Kid Rock, Larenz Tate, Salli Richardson, Kadeem Hardison, Titus Welliver, Tyson Beckford, Dion and Dante Basco, Melissa De Sousa, and Dena Cali. Bythewood and Craig Fernandez wrote the screenplay for Biker Boyz based on an article by Mr. Michael Gougis.

As with all of my reviews, I end with my analysis of the film, which is, I did not like Biker Boyz. One aspect of the film that I found a bit odd was that in such a dangerous pastime, only one person died in the whole film (one line in the film even referred to the fact that ER employees refer to motorcyclists as organ donors). Also, where in the hell were the Hell’s Angels? Not that I am a fan of there’s, but they are a rather famous bike club with a lot of members in California. Plus if you are looking for laughs, then don’t see this film since you will be severely disappointed. And finally, I just didn’t think watching a bunch of people on bikes ride real fast was all that entertaining since you pretty much knew who would win, and that my friends takes away from the suspense. So in the end, Biker Boyz gets just two couches.

Later.
