When
you think of a sequel it usually means the same characters continuing in a
related story. Well the only character returning in this sequel to The Fast and
the Furious is Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker, Joy
Ride) and he wasn’t even all
that great of a character. As much as I love Vin Diesel, I was sure 2 Fast 2
Furious would be a flop without him, but a new director, a new cast and some new
fast and furious moves, and viola we have a pretty kewl film. The
film begins in Miami and the stage is being set for another illegal street race.
But they are short one car, so Orange Julius (Amaury Nolasco) calls his buddy,
Brian to cover the fourth spot and be there in four minutes. Instead of racing
for pink slips, the cover is $3500.00 each. Now this race looks like the Power
Rangers on wheels. Suki (Devon Aoki) in her pink convertible, the blue Power
Ranger, the Yellow Power Ranger, well you get the picture. Now since we are all
immune to the fast car and the NOX boost, OJ surprises the drivers with a little
something something in the end. He raises a drawbridge so they have to jump it.
Well the cops come and pop Brian, only this time he is not an undercover agent,
he is wanted in LA for letting his mark go and various other charges. The FBI
offers him a break if he assists in bringing in Carter Verone (Cole Hauser,
Tears of the Sun). They already have an agent in there, Monica Fuentes (Eva
Mendes, All About the Benjamin’s), but she needs a little help. Brian takes
the deal as long as he can bring in his childhood Barstow friend Roman Pearce (Tyrese,
Baby Boy) and clear his record too. As it turns out this deal is not as easy as
it seemed. Their cars are being tracked GPS by the Feds, Verone’s guys are
also following the two, so with a little help from OJ and Suki the action really
heats up. In
addition to the expert driving, races, going under trucks and such, this movie
offers a little more ingenuity when escaping from the police and helicopters.
Walker was also a bit boring and predictable, but Tyrese was fresh and funny not
to mention pretty hot. We are not treated to more than his chest and abs, but
hmmmm hmmmm they sure were fine. Also
appearing in this John Singleton (Shaft) directed film were Chris
Ludaris, Thom Barry, James Remar, Michael Ealy, Jin Auyeung, Edward Finlay, Mark
Boone Junior, Matt Gallini and Roberto ‘Sanz’ Sanchez. The comic relief
Tyrese provided made for a great film, the action was pretty much what we have
come to expect with the exception of a truly great escape. I gave 2 Fast 2
Furious 10 couches.
