Rob
Schneider, need I say more? That’s right, the man who has starred in such
lowbrow films as The Animal, Deuce
Bigalow: Male Gigolo and had cameos in his buddy Adam Sandler’s many other
films, is back in another lowbrow movie produced by Sandler’s production
company. What may be even worse is that Schneider also writes most of his
material, including much of this film, The Hot Chick. As
to the story, young Jessica (Rachel McAdams) is Miss popularity, head
cheerleader, dates the quarterback, and is one fine looking lady. But as is
often the case, she is also a royal bitch and generally not very nice. Well, one
day she steals these cool looking earrings from a mall voodoo type shop with the
intention of wearing them to the prom with her boyfriend Billy (Matthew
Lawrence). While in the store, Jessica and her friend April (Anna Faris, Scary
Movie 2) are told by the drummer boy (Sandler, Eight
Crazy Nights) about some great places to store their pot, and are then told
a story by the storeowner (Angie Stone) about an ancient queen that once owned
the earrings Jessica will then steal. Well on the way home she loses one of
those earrings at the gas station where the criminal Clive (Schneider) finds it
and keeps it. That night, both are wearing one of the earrings, which through
magic, causes them to switch bodies. So now Jessica has the body of Clive, and
Clive has the body of Jessica. This experience is traumatizing to Jessica, but
ultimately it helps her grow as a person and become a better friend, daughter,
sibling and human being. But enough of the sappy stuff, it also lends to some
hilarious situations and some funny visuals. Some
of the other major players are Michael O’Keefe (The
Glass House) as Jessica’s dad, Melora Hardinas her mom, Lee Garlington,
Megan Kuhlmann, Sam Doumit, Melora Hardin, Alexandra Holden, Maria-Elena Laas,
Matt Weinberg, Leila Kenzle, Jodi Long, and a cameo by singer Michelle Branch.
Tom Brady directed the film, and even wrote some of it too (this isn’t the
football player Tom Brady). Going
into see the film I thought, oh crap, another stupid, unfunny, and boring Rob
Schneider flick. Well, only the stupid part was correct as I was pleasantly
surprised by a rather funny film. However, that was the only upside, and though
this is a comedy, I still need more out of a film to make it good, so I can only
give six couches.
