The Review:

The theme of domestic violence has never appealed to me as a movie plot, so going into the film Enough, starring Jennifer Lopez (Angel Eyes), as the abused wife Slim didn’t sound entertaining. In fact J.Lo in yet another bad film didn’t sound appealing either. Well, the film itself surprised me, but J.Lo didn’t. She still can’t act and parades around in as many tank tops as she can, like she has a chest to flaunt. It is all in your ass baby. The script by Nicholas Kazan needs work too. How can a woman be married to a man for about six years and not see some signs indicating a violent nature. How did she not piss him off at least once in all those years, then all of a sudden he is a maniac, stalking, nightmare of a man? Then she didn’t stay true to her character, plus the reason for not divulging her real name ever stupid. And if this chick was so cautious and worried about getting hurt, she was quick to accept the stranger Robbie’s invitations (Noah Wyle of ER and Donnie Darko), then immediately move on to Mitch (Billy Campell of Once and Again).

The film starts when Slim is working in a diner as a waitress with her friend Ginny (Juliette Lewis, The Other Sister). Robbie returns a second day bearing a rose, and after Slim accepts his invitation Mitch stands up and tells her this guy bet money she would go out with him. Her heart melts for this guy, and next thing we know she is getting married. Turns out Mitch comes from a very wealthy family and is very successful himself. The only indication of something sinister comes in his veiled threat to an old man to coerce him to sell his house shortly after they were married. So, complete wedded bliss until their daughter Gracie (Tessa Allen) is about five. Then the doting wife Slim discovers her wonderful husband is cheating on her and it gets violent. For a smart girl she certainly plays all her cards like she is stupid. She turns to her friends Ginny, Joe & Phil (Chris Maher and Joe Dan Futterman) to help her out. After her husband (with the wealth to find her no matter what she does) locates her at every turn she turns to her estranged father Jupiter (Fred Ward, Corky Romano), he laughs at her until Mitch’s goons peaks his interest. Since she knows he will continue to come after her, she decides to fight back. With only a month of training she feels she can come after him and eliminate her problem.

Outside of giving the message that the only way to get rid of your problem is to murder it, this movie isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The acting was bad, but the action was fun. Wyle has a cool car chase that ends badly. Then Slim kicking some ass was not all that bad. Also appearing in this Michael Apted directed film were Helene Cardona, Ruben Medera, Russel Milton and Jeff Kober. There wasn’t much to this plot, the believability factor wasn’t there and neither was the acting, but I still manage to be slightly entertained which says something. So I give this movie a five on the About-Movies.com sale.

Bu bye
