The Review:

Well they say people will do almost anything for love or money, and in the case of Bacum Jackson (Ice Cube of Three Kings) this bounty hunter is after the cash. There really isn’t much to this film, written by Ronald Lang and Ice Cube, other than it is set in Miami and apparently crime pretty much goes unnoticed. In fact crime is so rampant that the old ladies are pulling scams with potty mouths, and trailer trash scum all carry firearms that they discharge freely without so much as a look and see from a cop.

This film begins in the everglades with Ice Cube sneaking up on a bail jumper when his scanky girlfriend comes out shooting. Well Ice Cube gets his man but gets chewed out from his boss in the process. This is where we learn he would like to get out of this crappy business and become a private dick, but he needs some green stuff to get started and some publicity to give him a name. Then he takes off after a two- bit con artist that he has popped many times, Reggie Wright (Mike Epps of How High). This Reggie guy is teaching the senior citizens to five-finger their discounts while distracting the clerk with his purchases, among them a lottery ticket. This information comes in handy later. As Reggie is leaving the store, Ice Cube closes in and there is a chase. While this is going on a photo shoot is taking place that turns out to be a diamond heist. Reggie inadvertently hides out in the getaway van and learns of the whole shady deal, but while escaping leaves his wallet behind. So now the bad guys know who he is and where he lives, but it also turns out the lottery ticket is a winner worth 60 million dollars. So now the bad guys are after Reggie, Ice Cube is after Reggie and Reggie is after his lottery ticket. Leading the bad guys with a cool Irish accent, but pure evil is Robert Williamson (Tommy Flanagan of Gladiator), he shot the photographer Seth (Anthony Giaimo of Wild Things) at point blank in the arm causing a compound fracture, but no remorse. Before I give away too much more of this plot, I will stop and just give the rating.

This movie would like you to believe it was all about the Benjamins, but in reality it was about loyalty, trust, and even love, not just about the money. Also appearing in this action/comedy was Carmen Chaplin, Jeff Chase of Black Knight, Lil’ Bow Wow, Eva Mendes of Training Day, and Roger Guenveur Smith. Although I never got to see a nude Ice Cube, it was still an entertaining flick directed by Kevin Bray. I give, All About the Benjamins, a seven on the About-Movies.com rating scale
