The Review:

Who would trust Jennifer Lopez (Out of Sight) with fashion decisions after that horrible dress she was caught wearing last year? I certainly wouldn't, but Hollywood is the Land of Make Believe so she is able to pull off the character of Mary the wedding planner in the Adam Shankman directed romantic comedy entitled, The Wedding Planner. This film being one in a long line of wedding films that include My Best Friend's Wedding, The Wedding Singer, and the Father of The Bride 1 and 2. My point here would be that a romantic comedy set around a wedding is nothing new.

As to the story, Mary is the shit when it comes to planning expensive weddings, plus she makes sure everything goes right once it starts. So now she wants to land the biggest fish in San Francisco so that she can become a partner at the company she works for. Well she lands the account, but she gets a little more than she planned on when it turns out she has become attracted to the groom, Steve (Matthew McConaughey, U-571), which breaks one of the hallowed rules of wedding planning (I never heard of these rules, but they could exist). However Dr. Steve is set to marry rich girl Fran (Bridgette Wilson-Sampras), but he is having second thoughts, as is Fran. Meanwhile Mary's dad Salvatore (Alex Rocco, A Bug's Life) has arranged a marriage for her with a boy from Italy, Massimo (Justin Chambers) who she met in Italy as a very young girl. Of course Mary doesn't want to marry Massimo, but she can't marry Dr. Steve either. Now her high strung assistant Penny (Judy Greer, What Women Want) is not much help in this matter, but I mention her because I find her much more attractive than Jennifer Lopez (but then again I like slim and trim, not fat ass). Anyway, there is not much point in discussing the rest of the plot and story lines since The Wedding Planner pretty much blew chunks.

Was it romantic, slightly. Was it humorous, occasionally. So what we have here is a slightly romantic and occasionally humorous romantic comedy. Yep, you guessed it, not a particularly good film. The one bright spot I found was Kevin Pollak as Dr. John, and this is a bright spot only because I like Kevin Pollak, not because his role had any effect on the rest of the film. So to end this affair, I give The Wedding Planner two couches out of ten for the About-Movies.com rating. See ya later alligator.
