Once again we have a different origin for Vampires and another set of rules for dealing with these pesky undead. The Forsaken stars Kerr Smith (Final Destination) as Sean a guy working in the film industry as a trailer editor on a cross-country trip to Florida for his sisters wedding. He is driving this phat Mercedes convertible in exchange for trip money. He is supposed to deliver it this lady in Florida. Along the way he picks up hitchhiker Nick (Brendan Fehr, Disturbing Behavior) and in exchange he pays for gas to Houston. Along the way they meet newly bitten Megan (Izabella Miko, Coyote Ugly) and the vampire that bit her. Turns out Nick is a hunter of vampires and is searching for the host that bit him a year ago to end the infection/disease/curse. The new origin does not come from Vlad the Impaler but 400-500 years earlier. Nine people left after a bloody battle and an angel from Hell offer immortality for their souls. Eight of the warriors accept the offer and drink the blood of the ninth that refuse. Their guilty conscious at daylight, made them hideout and walk the night in darkness feeding on the blood of their victims. The only way to kill a Forsaken, one of the eight is on hallowed ground and only by beheading or sunlight, otherwise they won't die. Then the others with the misfortune to have infected blood they can die anywhere but again only by decapitation or sunlight. Oh yeah you can ward of the "turning" with drug cocktails used in treating aids, now that is original. Then the reason we don't hear of these vampires is because they hide their killing to look like gang attacks, or fire. . . This film was bloody but could have used more vampires and more people to feed on. The Forsaken did not have the super human strength other vampires have. He was strong and could communicate telekinetically but wasn't much. In fact I have trouble believing he survived all these years without another person knocking him off. The Forsaken was written and directed by J.S. Cardone (Outside Ozona). The story did contain a plot that was actually thought through. I know I don't want to travel alone through the Southwest especially at night now. It was kind of campy but most vampire films are. I just wish we could have seen more of the bloodbath instead of hearing it in the motel room next to Sean or hearing of the victims. As far as the rating I give The Forsaken a six on the About-Movies.com scale. I little more violence or a cute Sean butt would have made for a better rating.
