The Review:

Bond, James Bond. Well the latest Bond (Pierce Brosnan from the 007 films) is back, but not as Bond, nor is he a tailor. Instead he is Andy Osnard, but he still works for British intelligence. However Andy is in trouble for sleeping around with other people's wives, and hence he is banished to Panama to serve out the remainder of his career while staying out of trouble. Once in Panama, Osnard picks out a Brit who has set up shop as a tailor. Andy picks this tailor, Harry Pendel (Geoffrey Rush of Quills), to be his source of intelligence while in Panama. He picks him because Harry is an ex-con living an elaborate lie and he is also the tailor to many wealthy and powerful Panamanians. Harry is also married to an executive of the Canal Zone, Louisa (Jamie Lee Curtis, Drowning Mona). This way he has dirt to use in order to force Harry to give him info, plus Harry has access to important information. Of course there really isn't anything important happening in Panama, so Harry starts to make things up in order to get money from Andy. Andy then feeds the information up the line, embellishing a bit as well. Soon the British and Americans think Panama has a "silent opposition" and plans to sell the Panama Canal. Andy could care less about the ramifications of this or his actions, he just wants to skim the money being used to buy intelligence, and have sex with all the pretty ladies. It gets to a point where the US & UK are ready to send in forces as Andy tries to leave and Harry tries to get the truth out. John Boorman directs The Tailor of Panama, which is based on the novel by John Le Carre. Others in the cast are Brendan Gleeson, Harold Pinter, Lola Boorman, Daniel Radcliffe, Catherine McCormack, Leonor Varela, and a few others. Though the film has an interesting concept, most of it was just a bit too far fetched to be believable. Geoffrey Rush is great as the tailor turned spy, while Brosnan plays the asshole role of Andy well. Not much nudity, but a fair amount of sex. I give The Tailor of Panama five couches out of ten for the About-Movies.com rating.

Adios.
