The Review:

Back again as that lovable character is Jackie Chan as Detective Inspector Lee of Hong Kong and his loud mouth friend Chris Tucker as Detective James Carter, LAPD in Rush Hour 2 and I hear Rush Hour 3 is already in the works. This is the same basic plot of two detectives from different countries teaming up to solve international crime and add lots of comedy to a lot of action. If any of us remember the first Rush Hour these two bonded because both had fathers that were cops and both died in the line of duty. I tell you this because it is part of the plot for Rush Hour 2 and will probably be part of the plot in Rush Hour 3. The reason it is the same basic plot of two cops, two counties, common goal is because it works. It still is funny and it still entertains. This time we find the friends in Hong Kong and Tucker is on vacation looking for a little moo shu.

Chan (Shanghai Noon) is not on vacation and has to listen to his friend piss and moan about dragging him along on his cases when he wants some moo shu. Chan learns this is not food.
While this is going on a pretty Asian woman walks into the American Embassy and leaves a package. Yes a bomb that explodes shortly after she leaves the building. Yeah we would never guess that one. Chan gets a call from his boss about the bombing and tells him he doesn’t have to go after the ringleader who will be at this exclusive club with his gang. He doesn’t have to take this one because it is Ricky Tan (John Lone). Ricky Tan is a former Hong Kong cop that went bad and set up Chan’s father, they were partners. Chan tells Tucker they were invited to a party at a club and lets go have some fun. While in the club we see Tucker act up like he is paid to do in all his movies. Then Chan plays the straight guy until the fighting breaks out. This is not the end of Chan duping Tucker into thinking he is having fun while he works. They go to a Hong Kong massage parlor. I found this very entertaining to watch a bunch of men fighting in the Martial Arts all wearing towels and tiny little bathrobes. Hhhmmmmm yeah baby. This is where it all becomes basically the same old same old. Good guy needs revenge on bad guy from the past. Partners work together to get bad guy. Bad guy is basically double crossed by his partner and good guys get the bad guys in the end. Then comes the touching good bye as each goes back to their own countries to continue their work.

Also in this movie is the rich white guy Steven Reign (Alan King, Casino), Tucker states there always has to be a rich white guy. Then undercover secret service agent Isabella Molina (Roselyn Sanchez) does a nice job seducing everyone, and you can never really tell whose side she is really on. Rush Hour 2, was directed by Brett Ratner (The Family Man) and writing credits go to Ross LaManna. The plot was nothing special but Chan is always a delight to watch on screen and butcher the English language. Tucker is annoying but that is his job and he does it well. The fight scenes were great and creative and as always in a Chan movie is full of laughs and outtakes in the end. I gave Rush Hour 2 a seven on the About-Movies.com scale.

Chow mien.
