Holy shit Bluntman, foulmouthed Jay and silent sidekick Silent Bob now have their own movie from writer/director/actor Kevin Smith. Please note that it will enhance your movie going experience if you have already seen Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma, but it is not required to enjoy the film. Besides these films and the actors and actresses in them, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back also parodies a whole shit load of other films from Good Will Hunting, Charlie’s Angels to Star Wars. The movie itself starts outside the convenience/video store in Jersey where Jay (Jason Mewes, Scream 3) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) are selling dope and saying fuck with every other word to kids (we also get a glimpse of how the two met as toddlers). Soon the two are removed from their hangout by the cops, after which they learn of a movie being made based on the Bluntman and Chronic comic book that was introduced in Chasing Amy. After this discovery they want to go get their share of the movie money from strip creator Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck, Pearl Harbor). But once they catch up with Holden they learn that people on the Internet are making fun of the fictional comic book characters, which Jay and Silent Bob take personally (this is because they are the basis for the comic book characters). Now the two of them don’t want the movie to be made, and so they set off to Hollywood to stop the film’s production. This cross-country journey is where a lot of the fun begins as the two cross paths with George Carlin, Carrie Fisher, and a band of international jewel thieves. The four thieves consisting of Sissy (Eliza Dushku), Chrissy (Ali Larter), Missy (Jennifer Schwalbach Smith), and Justice (Shannon Elizabeth, American Pie 2) trick Jay and S-Bob into freeing a monkey from a pharmaceutical research facility as a decoy for their diamond theft next door. All this leads to some funny moments as Jay and S-Bob are now wanted leaders of the C.L.I.T. with an inept wildlife marshal (Will Ferrell, The Ladies Man) trying to hunt them down. There are plenty of other parodies and lots of other stars that show up in the film. Besides playing Silent Bob, Kevin Smith wrote and directed the movie. The rest of the cast is Matt Damon, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Biggs (from the American Pie movies), James Van Der Beek, Shannon Doherty, Renée Humphrey, Tracey Morgan, Scott Mosier, and many more. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is disgusting, foul-mouthed, has a stupid plot, and is absolutely hilarious. Though I loved this film, I don’t think I can put it above Dogma, so it gets just nine couches out of ten. Fuck you if you don’t agree.
