We first met Mick- Crocodile Dundee (Paul Hogan, Lightning Jack) way back in the 80's for the first Crocodile Dundee movie. That one was entertaining and charming. Since Crocodile Dundee was such a success of coarse it was followed up with a sequel. Dundee went to New York. That movie was not so charming. Dundee came across more as an ignorant buffoon. I guess that is why it has been more than 10 years since the last Crocodile movie. When I heard Hogan made a third one, the first question I asked was why? Why would anyone even care or spend money on it and isn't he getting kind of old now? Do we really want to see a geriatric fight off crocodiles and such in the outback or conquer Los Angeles? Dundee is still with Sue Charlton (Linda Kozlowski, Village of the Damned) they are not married but share a Mick junior age nine. They live in a small outback town population 20. Dundee and a partner run a tour group through the outback and capture crocodiles to make the area safe, you know for all those tourists. Sue's father asks her to go to Los Angeles and temporarily run one of his papers. This is what brings the Dundee family to Beverly Hills. This time Dundee is wiser and more worldly than his visit to New York. When he appears to not be understanding, he actually gets it, Dundee is just playing dumb and this comes across as charming as it was in the original movie. The only real premise for this film though is to poke fun of the people that live in Los Angeles. Then again Los Angeles is a completely different world all to themselves. He is also taking a bit of a jab at the film industry and actors. This is funny coming from a guy who is an actor and in between Crocodile Dundee movie roles is an ad man for a car commercial. The plot to this movie has Sue following the story her predecessor was working on before his fatal accident. Dundee offers to help and winds up working on a third sequel to a movie that the prior two did not do well in the box office. To ad flavor to his time in L.A. he brings his mate Jessie to be his son's nanny while he works on the film. Same old gags as New York, cross dressers, homosexuals, his knife, muggings. . .I will give this film credit for being funny. The audience around me were laughing and I even chuckled out loud once or twice. What worries me is Dundee has hinted to giving up the Crocodile business to be a private detective. So what is next a series of Mick Dick films? There was no nudity. Not that I would even want to see Hogan's bum or any other off beat outback character in the buff. Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles, was directed by Simon Wincer and writing credits by Matthew Berry with characters by Hogan. Also appearing is Paul Rodriguez as an extra in the film Dundee is in and a cameo from Mike Tyson as himself. I give this film a five on the About-Movies.com rating. No worries.
