The Review:

What’s the worst that could happen?  Oh wait that was the other Martin Lawrence movie that was actually pretty good. Black Knight though, is just bad. Lawrence is Jamal Walker (Skywalker) a 30 something year old from South Central working for minimum wage at Medieval World amusement park (basically a miniature golf, arcade type facility. He has no loyalty or ambition but you could say he has a heart. I say this because when he thought this stinky homeless Sir Knolte (Tom Wilkinson of The Patriot) guy was dying he tried to give him CPR (he first sprayed him with his Bianca blast) but he did make an effort to save da bum. Lawrence gave a pathetic attempt at being funny. When the story took Lawrence to 14th century England his comedy shtick was overdone and so overused that there wasn’t a punch line or even a laugh. The only funny moment was when he bedded Princess Regina (Jeannette Weegar) and got caught so he announced to King Leo (Kevin Conway of Thirteen Days) “your daughter is a freak” but hey if you were watching this movie you already knew that. Her only role in this film was to be a slut. First of all what is with this plot. Medieval World is going to go under because Castle World (bigger, better and new) is opening up down the street. Lawrence suggests to the owner she cash in and retire. She tells him to clean the moat and oh she expected so much more from him. Why would she expect more from him? What in his life had he ever done to even remotely indicate he had ambition or could be counted on? He also had an application to Castle World in his pocket so he was the one cashing in. While cleaning the moat he spies a gold medallion and reaches for it. I can appreciate a storyline of being dropped into 14th century somewhere but how do you go from South Central, Los Angeles to England? What a joke.

Okay Lawrence pops out of the water in England still thinking he emerged from the water in LA. He makes his way to the city and believes he is at Castle World and is all impressed. They question him at the gate and he introduces himself as Jamal Skywalker from Florence and Normandy (his street corner). They confuse him with the messenger from Normandy and let him in. The King is impressed with his announcement and offers him women and a place to stay. He asked for Victoria chambermaid number seven (Marsha Thomason) this sweet young thang he met in the courtyard. You see when he asked for her number she said seven. Ha ha ha. Well to skip all the trivial stuff if you can believe that the medallion he is wearing represents the people organizing to get rid of the king that wrongfully deposed their Queen.

The director Gil Junger needs to watch a few more movies, since then the hack would have discovered that just in the last year alone, all those attempts at comedy were already done. The musical beat, the jokes, all of it already done. Writers Darrly Quarles and Peter Gaulke should get out more too. What were they thinking? Also in this movie was Vincent Regan, Daryl Mitchell (of Home Fries), Erik Jensen (of the Love Letter) and Greg Cooper (of The Contender). Black Knight was not funny, it was the worst that could happen, and a boring waste of time. I rate this movie a two on the About-Movies.com couch scale.

Fare thee well.
