The Review:

I wouldn’t call Angel Eyes, starring Jennifer Lopez (The Wedding Planner) as police officer Sharon Pogue so much a mystery thriller as I would a co- dependent romance story. These characters are seriously damaged and pretty much remain that way. Although progress had been made by the end of the movie by both J Lo and James Caviezel as Catch Lambert.

J Lo is a tough Chicago cop that has trouble dealing with people in general. She came from an abusive childhood, although the abuse was not directed at her. She makes a very good tough cop though. J Lo definitely isn’t a prissy female in this film. In fact she stays true to her character pretty much throughout the film. Her co-star and leading man Caviezel (Pay it Forward) is an accident victim trying to find his life again.

The film starts out with J Lo on the scene of an accident involving Catch. We just see it from Sharon’s point of view. Then it cuts to one year later and we meet up with Catch. He walks around the streets of Chicago that is all. He just walks around the streets of Chicago all day and if he can do something helpful he does. He usually gets yelled at for trying to help. This is how he meets Sharon. He saves her life from a gangbanger. So these two emotionally dependent people meet, get together and fall in love. Only they don’t have a clue just how emotionally dependent they are.

This film was directed by Luis Mandoki and written by Gerald Di Pego. Also appearing in Angel Eyes was Sonja Braga as J Lo’s mother and my goodness has she aged or that was a hell of a makeup job.

If you are in the mood to see damaged people trying to get along then, by all means enjoy this movie. The worse it can do is show you how much better off your life is from theirs. But if you prefer your romantic dramas to lean towards the healthy side of a romance, then stay away from Angel Eyes. There is no mystery here and no thrills. The acting though is very convincing. I was impressed with J Lo, she can act and I did believe she was a tough female cop with a temper. I would have liked to see someone’s bare butt. I don’t think that was really J Lo diving off the cliff into the water though. The characters butt was way too small. The closest to nudity or a bare ass in this film comes in the form of underwear. So I give Angel Eyes a four on the About-Movies.com scale.

Later.
