Does Kevin Costner ever make a bad movie? You bet, and with increasing frequency. I enjoyed Field of Dreams and Message in a Bottle, but these were not the action flicks that Costner seems to like doing. Of course Costner isn't the only one in 3000 Miles to Graceland, in fact I don't think he even gets the most time on screen. That distinction goes to Kurt Russell (Stargate) as Michael, the bank robber with a conscience. Costner plays the evil, back-stabbing Murphy who claims to be an illegitimate son of the king himself, Elvis Presley. Our story begins outside Vegas where Michael, fresh out of prison, meets an attractive single mother by the name of Cybil (Courtney Cox, Scream 3) whose son Jesse (David Kaye) is a natural thief. While Michael waits for the rest of his robber buddies to show up, he does Cybil, who then seems to fall for him. Next the gang arrives which includes Murphy, Hanson (Christian Slater, The Contender), Gus (David Arquette), and Franklin (Bokeem Woodbine). Then they meet up with Jack (Howie Long) to get their gear, Elvis outfits. So then they head off to the Riviera Casino to rob the place dressed as Elvis impersonators during an Elvis impersonator convention. They rob the place in broad daylight and escape in Jack's helicopter, but lose Franklin in the action-packed gunfight during the escape. Soon Murphy shoots Hanson, then Gus and Michael in a separate sequence. Hanson and Gus die, while Michael survives due to his bulletproof vest. So now Michael and Murphy square off in a cross country race to get the money (at times both chasing Cybil and Jesse who have the money) and get to Idaho to launder the money with Peterson (Jon Lovitz). Meanwhile Michael and Jesse are bonding, and Michael is slowly falling for Cybil. Plus you have Federal Marshals Quigley (Thomas Haden Church) and Damitry (Kevin Pollak, The Wedding Planner) chasing down the group. Ice-T also makes an appearance in the final gun battle that had a lot of shots fired but few people were actually hit. The other cast members are Shawn Michael Howard, Raoul Ganeev, Daisy McCracken, Morgan H. Margolis, and Peter Kent. I can't say that I hated 3000 Miles to Graceland, but it definitely wasn't a great film by any stretch of the imagination. Basically the acting was adequate, but there wasn't much depth to the plot outside the interaction between Kurt Russell and the kid. This was pretty much a mindless shootem' up action film. That all said, I give the movie four couches (probably two of those just for Cox's breasts) out of ten for the About-Movies.com rating. Thank you, thank you very much.
