I laughed so hard I cried. This movie is fabulous, a must see for everybody. What could be so wonderful, oddly, The Replacements staring Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) as quarterback, Shane Falco. This film stomps all over any comedy film this year and possibly into next year. What is really great about this movie, is you don't have to be a fan of football to enjoy it. In fact you don't have to even know anything about football or have ever heard of football to love The Replacements. Enough accolades, on to the plot. Reeves is a washed up college quarterback that blew a "bowl" game and now scrapes barnacles off the bottom of other peoples boats. Gene Hackman (Enemy of the State) is Coach Jimmy McGinty who is also given a second chance at the game. He has to move a playoff bound team into those playoffs, the catch, the professional players just went on strike and he has less than a week to put together a team. Hackman brings back Reeves and a team of misfits to replace the striking players. The cast is delightful and the hilarious Welsh guy from Notting Hill, Rhys Ifans as Nigel 'the leg' Gruff, is back and just as funny as ever. Director Howard Deutch did a great job taking the football out of the football movie. Anybody can feel like it is Monday night at the games and you don't need a play book to keep track. This movie has heart and it has soul, not to mention the most enjoyable ' electric slide" to date. I give The Replacements a 10 out of 10 couches. Yes that is correct a score of 10, there is no room for improvement. This movie is the Superbowl of movies, or for us amateurs, the Heisman Trophy of movies. I did get my gratuitous booty shot that did not add or take away from my rating. I just loved this comedy. Last updated: Thursday, March 20, 2008 02:49:16 AM |
