I must admit I was expecting a lot more from The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, just because it was Eddie Murphy and the guy is funny. I should have kept in mind what is said about sequels, they are never never never as good as the first one. Although, Murphy's Beverly Hills Cop II was worthy. I did see, Murphy's first Nutty Professor and it was hysterical. This Nutty Professor, directed by Peter Segal, was not so funny. I think Murphy (Bowfinger), who plays almost all the characters in film was trying to hard to put together a story line and keep it as funny as the last Professor movie. The scenes around the dinner table will always be a gas, but that is where the Klumps should remain. They should not try to make a movie on those characters, they are not fully developed nor do they contain any interest other than the foul habits at the table. What made the last Nutty Professor movie was the Buddy Love character which was typical Murphy antics and the pathetic but loveable Professor Sherman Klump, also played by Murphy. This movie should have been more about the two opposites and how they are part of each other and a story line around that, plus with added potty humor from the folks. The love interest is Janet Jackson (Poetic Justice) as Denise Gains, a brilliant Professor at the same University that Sherman teaches at. The movie begins with a dream sequence of Sherman getting married to Janet and Buddy Love popping out of his stomach. Talk about premonition. Sherman is working on a fountain of youth type drug, as if he learned his lesson on the last experiment. He also has discovered that Buddy Love type gene has mutated in his own DNA, so he wants this to be removed. Aspects of Buddy keep popping out at the most inopportune times. His assistant tells him this could be fatal to separate this gene from his own gene sequence. Sherman makes a fool of himself again, and races to the lab to extract the Buddy Love gene. Well being the oaf he is, screws up and well Love is alive again. This would have sustained as a story line in itself, but they had to add more Klump family humor to the mix and spend an entire separate story line on his family, their sexual behaviors and experimenting with Sherman's newest discovery. If they are not at the dinner table, eating and carrying on, they are not all that funny, they are just pathetic losers. I certainly did not want any booty shots of any of the Klumps, and Murphy's butt I have seen, so with the disappointing story line and dry humor I rate The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps with a three couches out of 10.
