I would first like to say I don't like a romance mixed in with my action movies. If I am watching action, the only action I want to see is a lot of explosions and a high body count. I also love director John Woo (Face/Off), who is most noted for his wonderful action films, his latest, Mission Impossible II. If you enjoyed the first Mission: Impossible starring Tom Cruise (Magnolia) as Ethan Hunt, than you won't be disappointed. If you are like me and just wanted an action flick then I guess you will be disappointed. I just didn't notice anything different from the first to the second. Sadly I didn't even get a gratuitous booty shot of Cruise. The action sequences were fabulous but that is to be expected for Woo. The heroine was a real beauty played by Thandie Newton. The villains were truly villainous, even with the predictable cigar sniper scene. I was very disappointed with the limited role given to Ving Rhames (Out of Sight), he is capable of so much more in an action film. Rhames as Luther Stickell could have given a great deal more to this movie. The twists that added interest to M:I-2 were the identity switches with those masks, we know these from the first movie. I love these twists in the plot even though it was completely implausible to have made some of those switches into a mask, not to mention the time factor involved, but maybe that is why they call it mission impossible. I gave this film five couches out of 10 I am still disappointed with not seeing a nude Cruise.
