I know what you must be thinking, another beauty pageant flop, remember that disaster starring that fat cheers chick from Veronica's closet, what was her name? Oh yeah Kirsty Alley, a psycho mom that wrecks havoc on an unsuspecting pageant. Well the premise is basically the same but this time amazing people have been cast to save the show. What is amazing in Miss Congeniality is Sandra Bullock (28 Days). She has this quirky humor and incredible charm that wins every audience over no matter how bad the script or director is. Miss Congeniality was directed by Donald Petrie, but who really cares because without the zany behavior of Bullock as federal agent Gracie Hart this movie would have went straight to video. I was very surprised, what was even more amazing than Bullock was Michael Caine as Victor, a beauty coach. I am still fuming about Caine winning last years Oscar in Cider House Rules. I don't think he contributed much to that movie but that is a moot point, he was great in Miss Congeniality. Well enough said about the cast, let's move on to the plot, not much of one. We already know the FBI has sent an undercover agent, Bullock, into the pageant to investigate. They have reason to believe that a serial bomber has targeted the pageant as his next hit and they are trying to determine who it could be before he strikes. We have all seen Bullock and she is a knockout but for this film she is rude, crude, and disgustingly a slob. I don't believe she even owns a brush let alone a lipstick. Enter Caine as the beauty coach. He has about 48 hours to transform this beer swilling, picks her teeth with her fingers, wipes her face on the front of her shirt, wise ass into a lady. Not just a lady but a real beauty that has poise and grace and can pass as a beauty contestant. The FBI involves the pageant directors, a former pageant winner herself, Candice Bergen and William Shatner a womanizer but not much of a stretch there. They rig the contest so Bullock makes the top 10 but after that she is on her own. This movie is funny with a lot of the one liners already given away in the trailer. What makes this movie truly funny is Bullock's delivery and spunk. I give this movie a seven on the About-Movies.com rating. What would have made this film a hit for me is a nude ass shot from Bullocks FBI partner Eric Matthews, played by Benjamin Bratt (Red Planet), yeah that would have done it alright.
