The Review:

Holy molly it's sort of religious. Keeping the Faith is not actually a religious flick, however one main character is a rabbi and the other is a priest in this romantic comedy. We start out in an Irish pub run by an Arabic gentleman where a priest is telling this story of sorrow after a few too many. Father Brian Finn (Edward Norton, Fight Club) tells of a broken heart, and then the film goes back in time to his childhood. Growing up in New York, Finn is friends with Jacob Schram (Ben Stiller, There's Something About Mary), and the two meet this girl named Anna Reilly and all three become best friends. But a year later Anna (Jenna Elfman, Can't Hardly Wait) has to move away with her family to San Francisco. After that the two boyhood friends loose touch with her, but the bond between them grows stronger. Eventually one becomes a priest and the other a rabbi who both energize their congregations and become well known in the community as the God Squad. Then one day out of the blue, Anna calls. She then proceeds to come out on business. She arrives all grown up and beautiful much to their wandering eyes. The priest is infatuated and can't do anything because of his vows, and the rabbi can't do anything because Anna is not Jewish, but both want her. The rest of the movie is the standard two friends love one woman, who will win and will they still be friends in the end. Keeping the Faith is not exactly original in its overall concept (two men loving the same woman), it does however provide lots of laughs with its storyline of the two religious leaders. The film is directed by Norton, and he does a decent job. All the actors and actresses played their roles well, but none stood out. Besides many laughs over religion and the comedic talents of Stiller, this movie is not that discernable from most other romantic comedies. I did enjoy myself at the theater and found the movie very funny and even believable, but it is not one of the more memorable romantic comedies. Besides those mentioned above, others in the movie are Anne Bancroft, Milos Forman, Kryss Anderson, Lisa Edelstein, and Brian Anthony Wilson in a limited role, but very hilarious role, as the security guard T-Bone. Keeping the Faith was written by Stuart Blumberg. As to the About-Movies.com rating, I give it six couches for keeping me laughing and entertained. BuuuuuByyyyye
