The Review:

Was this the Endgame or just the beginning of a new game in the Highlander saga. I'm a fan of the Highlander movies, but I must say I haven't watched the TV series. Highlander: Endgame directed by Douglas Aarniokoski appeared to combine the movies with the series. I could see why they did that, but is still made for much confusion and disappointment. This movie was to end the Highlander role of Christopher Lambert as Connor Macleod (Mortal Kombat) and bring in the new Macleod, Duncan played by Adrian Paul (Merlin: The Return). Paul plays Macleod in the television series. The movie is made up of flashbacks from previous Highlander movies. Starting with the end of the last movie, the explosion of Connor Macleod's, antique gallery. Then 10 years forward to a sanctuary and more flashbacks. With all the flashbacks I was truly disappointed that there were no flashbacks to Ricardo Montalban or Sean Connery, since they were important characters in the immortal life of Connor Macleod. The storyline from the last movie, did not carry over to this one. It seemed like they made up a whole new set of rules and changed the entire game. I felt cheated and kept looking for some semblance of the other movies. Even when the immortal is beheaded there was very little graphic show, something I used to look forward to. This was not really a Highlander movie but more of the TV series with TV like content. The plot was to bring the two Macleod's together in power to defeat an evil immortal from Connors past. Now that this is done, where does this take Duncan Macleod? Will the movies ever be the same without Christopher Lambert? I guess we will have to wait and see for the new Highlander movies, after all, this one was named endgame. There must be a new beginning or ever after. Now for my rating, I give Highlander: Endgame a six out of 10. I was disappointed in the violence and the script. The violence was far to tame for my taste.
