And
they were kung fu fighting, those chicks were fast as lightning. . . well er uh
maybe the slow motion action sequence scene's stolen or borrowed or copied,
however you look at it from The Matrix is
the new hype in action movies. Action movies attracting chicks no less.
Yeah I love the action flick, the more
explosions they better. It is even better when it involves a high body count.
But this movie attempted to pass on a heavy message. It was all about the women.
They don't need guns to be powerful and beat those big bad men. They use all
their talents to beat the bad guy. The bad guys who do have all the guns and
missiles and bombs and swords. Charlie's
Angels directed by McG adopts the same basic theme at the television series from
the mid 1970's. Three beautiful women working for a man they have never met in
his detective agency, Charlie's Angels of and their mentor Bosley. These
crime-fighting angels take on all the undercover roles that give young boys and
men fuel for their undercover fantasies. Like the series we don't get any
gratuitous nude shots but what they do show throws more gasoline on those boy's
fire. Yes they are right it is better to leave some to your imagination of just
that hope that yes something just might pop out. Ohhh. We
have Drew Barrymore (from Home Fries) as
Dylan, the one and only Lucy Lui (True
Crime) as Alex the smart one. Cameron Diaz (Being
John Malkovich) is the adorable athletic one, Natalie. And we sure can't
forget Bosley played by Bill Murray (Rushmore).
Instead of a competent middle age mentor, Murray makes Bosley out to be a
buffoon. Then what would Charlie's Angels be without the smooth voice of John
Forsythe the one and only Charlie Townsend. Unlike
the TV series, we get a brief peak at the Angels personal lives, which I found
unnecessary for the balance they were looking for. Barrymore told the Rosie
O'Donnell show that they did all their own stunts. That they studied Bruce Lee
and Drunken Master movies to get the martial arts affect. Maybe the action
sequences would have spoke for themselves if it was more Martial Arts and less
of a rip off of the Matrix style of action, without the kewl sci-fi appeal.
