Ya know it's a little strange seeing Freddie Prinze Jr. as a geek, but since I'm not quite as attractive (though it is a close call) as him, I like it. But all of that is beside the point in Freddie's latest flick, Boys & Girls. Freddie (She's All That) stars as a geeky kid named Ryan who keeps running into this hot babe named Jennifer (Claire Forlani) at different points in his life until the two both end up at the University of California at Berkley (they're the Golden Bears). Once in college Ryan becomes less geeky, but still is annoyed with Jennifer who acts a little stuck up, but eventually the two become best friends. While all of this is happening, Ryan's roommate Hunter/Steve (Jason Biggs from American Pie) is going around acting like a clown and providing the comic relief. Then throw in Megan (Heather Donahue from The Blair Witch Project) as Ryan's new girlfriend, and you have conflict, not very tense conflict, but conflict nonetheless. So the question becomes, will Ryan and Jennifer become more than friends, and can their friendship then survive this. Basically it's When Harry Met Sally, but at a younger age (but not quite as funny and {obviously (wow a bracket with in a bracket!)} original). Well frankly I didn't really care that much if the two hooked up, except for the fact that I would have liked to have seen Claire Forlani (Mystery Men) naked. Other than that I didn't care too much about the plot. In fact Jason Biggs' character Hunter was about the only thing good about the movie. But in all honestly I don't think the director, Robert Iscove, was really targeting this movie to people of my age, hence the PG-13 rating for Boys & Girls. This film was written by Andrew Lowery and Andrew Miller. The rest of the cast included Amanda Detmer (Drop Dead Gorgeous), Monica Arnold, Alyson Hannigan, Matt Schulze, and even a few more, but not me. I repeat, I Michael Stevens was not in this film. But if I was, I would have been cast as the Great Looking Guy and not Brian Poth. Well enough about me and my fantasies, and back to Boys & Girls. Overall the film was entertaining with the humor of the Hunter/Steve character, so it shall receive a rating of four couches for the About-Movies.com rating. That's it for this review of Boys & Girls, bye bye. Last updated: Thursday, March 20, 2008 02:50:02 AM |
