The Review:

The Art of War, starring Wesley Snipes, is your typical action film that has the hero in some government covert operation then is set up to be the scapegoat for the same operation he works for. Been there, done that. The only difference this action film has from the multitudes of similar films like it is, it is hard to tell if Snipes is really being set up from within or another outside entity. While other similar films try to surprise you with that concept, Art of War tries to convince you otherwise. The director is Christain Duguay, and outside of a few technical mistakes does a good job in keeping the audience in suspense as to who the bad guy really is. I am sorry to say, I had it figured out immediately, but was willing to waffle a little to try and enjoy the suspense. Donald Sutherland (Fallen) was very convincing in his governmental role within the United Nations. But he should be good at those roles, isn't that what he usually is cast as? As an action film, Art of War did not disappoint. There was a high body count, a lot of explosions and chase scenes. My kind of action film. There was even the gratuitous love interest story development, not what I look for in my shoot em up, bang bang movie, but that is what seems to sell. As far as the plot goes, Snipes (Blade) is working for the UN, in some non-existent covert role. He does all the spy stuff well. On his last mission he exposed some Chinese military official and a Chinese businessman and forced them to do what they wanted. On his departure he was shot and wounded. After his six- month recuperation he was working another Chinese and UN function for a trade agreement. The Chinese diplomat and some other were shot and killed and while Snipes was pursuing the assassin, he was arrested and charged with the offense. I did not get any booty shot from Snipes and was truly disappointed by that. What a shot that would have been. Nevertheless, this was a decent action flick and gets an eight out of 10 rating. I do like explosions.
