The Review:

Once again Disney revisits the tired old tale penned by Dodie Smith about a bunch of black spotted dogs and the evil Cruella De Vil. Glenn Close (Air Force One) reprises her role as De Vil in this sequel to the live action 101 Dalmatians of a few years ago. Joining Close on the side of evil this time are Gerard Depardieu from The Man in the Iron Mask (Le Pelt) and Tim McInnerny (Alonso). De Vil gets out of jail because she has undergone mental treatment to cure her of her fur fetish, but soon the treatment wears off and she is out to make her Dalmatian fur coat again. She enlists her inept lackey Alonso, and the French fur designer Le Pelt (how clever). Joining forces to fight the good fight are Chloe (Alice Evans), Kevin (Ioan Gruffudd, Titanic), and Ewan (Ben Crompton). Chloe is Cruella's parole officer and the one whose dogs helped save the day last time. Kevin is the director of the 2nd Chance dog shelter that Cruella works at for her community service. That's it for story. However, remember that this is a Disney film, and that it is a children's film. Acting in 102 Dalmatians, who cares? Acting isn't really what you are looking for in a film like this. Instead you look at the special effects and the dialogue. The special effects were good, but the humor was to toddler for anyone over the age of 13. This may be a children's film, but adults normally sit through it with their offspring, which means it needs to be entertaining for them as well (see Toy Story for a good example of how to do it). Basically parents should wait till 102 Dalmatians is out on video so the electronic babysitter can watch the kids as these parents spend some quality time together in the bedroom. This Kevin Lima directed film receives three couches for the About-Movies.com rating. This film needs either better humor or some nudity/gunfights for the adults. Goodbye.
