Random Hearts is a little film starring Harrison Ford as a DC cop by the name of Dutch and Kristin Scott Thomas (The Horse Whisperer) as congressperson Kay Chandler, who both have their spouses die in a commercial airline crash. This film is supposed to be a romantic film with some drama, but I guess the director Sydney Pollack forgot that. I say (or type) this because as the audience you know from the start that the two main characters spouses' are sleeping together, so you know Dutch and Kay will find out. So there goes that drama. Then you have the suspense of will Kay and Dutch hook up, of course, this is a Hollywood film. Again, there goes that drama. Now we have romance left. Who really wants to see Ford in a romantic film? Not me. I love Harrison Ford (only as an actor though) but, that's in films like Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and Patriot Games (all action flicks) and not in films like Six Days, Seven Nights. I think the film would have worked better if the plane crash had not been an accident and the two would be lovers (Dutch & Kay) would fall for each other after a long search for justice for the deaths of their spouses. But that's just what I think, which doesn't really matter now. Besides directing Random Hearts, Mr. Pollack is also in his film as Carl Broman. The screenplay was written by Darryl Ponicsan, which is based on the book by Warren Adler. The rest of the cast includes Susanna Thompson as Peyton Van Den Broeck, Peter Coyote as Cullen Chandler, Paul Guilfoyle, Charles Dutton, Dennis Haysbert, and even Bonnie Hunt (A Bug's Life). You can probably tell that Random Hearts didn't score too high on the old charts, so without further ado, I give the film two couches out of ten for the About-Movies.com rating. As a side note there was no nudity. Last updated: Thursday, March 20, 2008 02:45:39 AM |
