The Review:

Good evening this is Robin McFetridge with Out & About's Movie Review of Payback. Get ready for some real violence. Payback starring Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon 4) and directed by Brian Hegeland, is just plain mean. So if thriller/action is your type of flick you're in for a treat. Since it's the bad guy against the bad guys nothing is held back. The plot is revenge. Porter, played by Gibson, and his best friend Val, played by Gregg Henry (Star Trek: Insurrection), hold up a few Asian thugs. They stage a high-speed game of chicken in an alley - why, because the Asians aren't wearing seat belts. Val continues to beat on the Asians when they are unconscious & bleeding, nice guy. Porter's heroin addicted wife drives up to pick them up. Val needs $130k to get back into the syndicate - oh yah the organization. The take was for $140 k, which means 60 each and 10 for Lynn Porter played by Deborah Unger. So Val takes it all and Lynn empties her gun into her husband. Why would his wife sell him out - she was still only getting her 10 k - well Val showed her a photo of Porter and a call girl together - he used to be the girl's driver. Porter's not dead and all he wants is his 60 k and he doesn't care who has to die to get it. To get his money he has to get Val. So Porter takes on the Syndicate. One by one, explosions - bombs - machine guns - Asian thugs - toes being smashed. First little piggy & then the one that went to the market. It's just cold-blooded murder. While we still root for Gibson - the bad guy. I love action films so there can't be enough explosions or too high of a body count. I can't reveal much more without giving up the whole film, after all it's the violence and body count you're after - action films have a limited plot. So now onto the Out & About rating. I give it 8 couches and a loveseat out of 10 just for the violence and the leading man, blue eyed Mel. This has been Robin McFetridge for Out & About.
