I'm baaack. Hello again and welcome to another edition of the not so famous Out & About Movie Review, I am you movie dude, Mr. Michael O. Stevens. Just to let you know, I have absolutely no qualifications for this job other than being the producer of a low budget, low ratings, college TV show. In fact a college that I no longer attend, since I graduated over a year ago. Now you might be saying what a loser, and you might be right, but didn't your mommy teach you to not call people names. So if all you out there don't stop calling me names then I'm gonna call each an every one of your mothers. Now back to the review of Gloria staring the erotic Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct). Amazingly we don't get to see Sharon naked at any point in this movie, which I must say is very surprising and was a big disappointment. As you might be able to tell I like nudity in my movies, I'm not sure why, but I think it's a guy thing. But back to the review. Gloria starts at a Florida prison where Gloria, played by Stone, is being released after three years in the slammer. Shortly after this she flies to New York where her mob friends are so she can collect the money she was promised for not squealing. But in the meantime the mobsters go and whack a family, minus one seven year old kid named Nicky and played by Jean-Luke Figueroa. So now Gloria arrives to find out there will be no money, and needless to say she gets pissed, robs the mobsters, frees the kid from impending execution, and gets herself in hornets nest by accident. You see the kid has a disk that could put half the cops and the mobsters in New York away in prison. So the hunt is on for Gloria and the kid. The main bad man is Kevin, and is played by Jeremy Northam (Amistad). But he is just small potatoes compared to Ruby Rich, the main mobster. Ruby is portrayed by the legendary George C. Scott, the man who many think of as Patton, and an actor who I thought was probably dead by now, but he isn't. Scott's role is small, in fact most of the movie deals with the interaction of Gloria and the kid and how dealing with a smart ass kid melts the heart of the street tough Gloria, who apparently was once a hooker. Others in the film include Cathy Moriarty, Mike Starr, and Bonnie Bedelia. Sharon Stone puts in a pretty good performance, and teamed with the kid the movie has some pretty good laughs. But this rated R picture from Mandalay Entertainment was supposed to be a thriller and drama. Unfortunately it isn't much of either, and there aren't enough laughs for it to be a comedy. So in the end the viewer doesn't really know what to make of the film. It was an interesting film that at times was enjoyable, but it didn't deliver what it was supposed to. Now its time to finish up the review with the Out & About rating for Gloria, which gets a four. For the Out & About Movie Review I am Mike Stevens, now back to your host of Out & About.
