The Review:

The movie, "The End of the Affair," directed by Neil Jordon and Starring Ralph Fiennes (Quiz Show) and Julianne Moore (Psycho), had me screaming for the end of the movie. We are introduced to the character of Maurice, played by Ralph Fiennes years after the affair has ended. He is beginning his novel on hate. After we have Moore's character Sarah (the unfaithful wife), her inattentive husband Henry (played by Stephen Rea), and Fiennes together the movie begins to backtrack to the affairs and fast forwards again. When Fiennes and Rea are together Rea suggests his wife might be having an affair. This peaks the interest of Fiennes because of the affair he once had with her years ago. Rea shows Fiennes a business card of a private investigator then quickly changes his mind and tosses the card into the fire. Fiennes goes on to hire the detective and through the coming and goings of Moore, we are taken into the lives these three people lived during the war and the affair. This story alone might have made a quaint movie, that most could enjoy. For some unknown reason the story line flips and we are expected to believe that the lying, adulterous Moore can now perform miracles. Sarah, by the grace of God, can raise a man from the dead and heal a boy's infliction since birth. We can't believe the pitiful performance of these actors and now an adulterous slut can do the work of God. Only she can't even keep her own promises she made to God. The movie ends on the same note it began, Fiennes is working on his book of hate, only now we know whom he hates. The movie had sex and explosions, and lots of gloomy rain. All of these things I like, but the script was unbelievable, trite and the acting less than memorable. I give this film three couches out of 10, only because of a cool explosion.
