I see dead people. Ya, I know, that's a rip-off of The Sixth Sense, but Denzel Washington (The Siege) does see dead people in this movie. But in this instance the people are completely dead and don't talk to Haley Joel Osment. Anyway Denzel portrays Lincoln Rhyme, a New York detective who handles homicides, and more specifically, serial killers. This Universal release also stars Angelina Jolie as Amelia Donaghy, also a cop with the NYPD. The film starts off with Det. Rhyme being paralyzed in the line of duty. Then we cut to officer Donaghy's discovery of a finger coming out of some gravel on a rail bed. Then we go back to Rhyme in his apartment where he is now a paraplegic struggling to find a reason to live. The NYPD is baffled by the case Donaghy discovers, and soon other victims are discovered, so they ask for the assistance of Rhyme. Rhyme agrees to help, but requests the assistance of Donaghy because he is bed ridden and he sees potential in her. The Bone Collector then takes off as the Denzel and Jolie race against time to save the citizens of New York from a terrible serial killer who has specifically sought out Lincoln Rhyme. Soon Lincoln's friends start dying too as the killer tries to move in on Lincoln. Of course I can't give away the ending on this mystery thriller. I will say that I found little foreshadowing that could give away the killer as the director Phillip Noyce kept me guessing as to who dunit. The remainder of the cast includes rapper Queen Latifah, Mike McGlone, Eddie Ortiz, Michael Rooker, Bobby Cannavale, Richard Zeman, John Hickey, Leland Orser as Richard Thompson, Gary Swanson, and Olivia Birkelund as Lindsay Rubin. Plus Mr. Ed O'Neill (AKA Al Bundy) plays detective Paulie Sellitto. Since The Bone Collector kept me guessing and kept me glued to the screen, I would have to say that it was a successful endeavor as a thriller. Thought the film was well acted and well directed, but probably a little gory. So to wrap this review up, I give the movie eight couches for the About-Movies.com rating. Bye bye.
