What do you get when you light a cigarette? Overlooking the obvious health risks, your burning away your money and it STINKS. There you have it, 200 cigarettes, or carton of smokes, costs what a movie for two does, and it stinks. Hello, this is Robin McFetridge for Out and About's review of 200 cigarettes directed by Risa Bramon Garcia. The plot is set in 1981 New Years eve, in New York, why; I don't have a clue. It sure wasn't for the music, the clothes, or the hair, because they missed it all in that aspect. The movie didn't even reflect the ideals of that time, with the only exception. The mention of Reganomics, which I don't even believe, had a real chance of getting started at that point. Well back to the plot, oh Yah I forgot, it didn't have a plot. A bunch of whiney 20 something's so caught up in themselves, make their way to a new years eve party. We the viewers don't actually make it to the party, thank god for little favors. Not even an all star cast of Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, sporting a 1998 hairstyle and facial hair, along with Courtney Love, Christina Ricci, Gaby Hoffman, Martha Plimpton and Jeanne Garofalo could make this flick remotely interesting. The whining and rantings of Gaby Hoffman and Martha Plimpton just make you want to beat the crap out of them, or at least knock them into that dog crap, that blonde chick had on her back all night. This movie proved that regardless of what ever acting ability you have displayed in the past, a script that stinks, will always stink, no matter what air fresheners are used in star quality. This movie wasn't even scored musically with trendy music from 1981 to lift the stinky smoke from our eyes. It felt like we sat in a smoke filled room for almost two hours watching the gong show. Now for the Out and About movie rating I give it one couch and an ashtray, out of ten. Save your money and if its eighties nostalgia you're after, go see The Wedding Singer.
