The Review:

Hello peoples, I am Michael Stevens and this is the Out & About Movie Review of Bill Murray and company in the comedy Rushmore. Welcome once again, I will continue to be your guide to the movies, and hope you've enjoyed the ride so far. As to our movie this time, Rushmore, it stars old funnyman Bill Murray as the millionaire Herman Blume, a graduate of the exclusive Rushmore prep school back east. The story starts with Blume giving a half-ass speech to the student body that Max Fischer agrees with. Fischer, played by newcomer Jason Schwartzman, is a poor student on scholarship, he wrote a play to get in. Fischer isn't academically smart, buts does participate in every activity outside of class that he can, and even starts some new clubs to fill up even more time. So as Max is on the verge of being expelled for bad grades he discovers a first grade teacher that he becomes infatuated with after reading a passage she wrote in a book. So to impress her, he stops Latin from being canceled, in fact he gets it required. Then he sees that she, Rosemary Cross, has lots of fish tanks in her classroom, so now Max goes to visit Herman Blume, you know Bill Murray's character. He then gets Blume to give him money to start work on construction of an aquarium for the school. This big fish tank is unauthorized and finally gets Max kicked out of Rushmore, and now he has to attend public school. Well actually his sabotage of Mr. Blume's BMW gets him the boot, but I'll get to that in a minute. There he meets a girl named Margaret Yang, portrayed by Sara Tanaka. This girl is rather similar to Max in personality, and would make a good match for Max, but he is still obsessed with Miss Cross. In the meantime the married Mr. Blume becomes attracted to Ms. Cross, who is played by Olivia Williams. So now its Blume versus Fischer for Miss Cross's love, but she doesn't really care for either of them. Others in the film are Owen Wilson (Armageddon), Brian Cox as Dr. Guggenheim the school's headmaster, Seymour Cassel as Max's dad, Mason Gamble as Max's young friend Dirk, and Stephen McCole as the foul mouthed Magnus Buchan. Rushmore is rated R for a bunch of profanity. The film was written and directed by Wes Anderson. Rushmore is very funny most of the time, but it's more of strange slash black comedy than slapstick or your normal Bill Murray comedy, like Groundhog Day. Murray puts in a good performance, but you just keep thinking he's going to go off into his normal routines, but he doesn't, though his usual mannerisms are present. Schwartzman also plays a convincing part as an abnormal love crossed teen, who writes great plays. I definitely liked Rushmore, thought Max's clothes were great, not that I'd ever wear something like, but they definitely fit the character. So it's now time for the Out & About rating of Rushmore, which gets an eight. For the Out & About Movie Review machine, I'm Mike Stevens sayin' good-DAY.
