The Review:

Have you seen the movie that Sandra Bullock falls in love? Me too, in fact several times, but I saw her latest one Practical Magic. Hello again I'm Mike Stevens for the Out & About movie review of Bullock and Nicole Kidman (To Die For) in Practical Magic.

This PG 13 Warner Brothers release starts when the two little sisters are growing up with their aunts, who just happen to be witches, and just happen to live in Massachusetts. There parents died when they were young. This love story or comedy or fantasy film is sort of a genre in it's own right, called everything wrapped up into one thing to draw in the biggest audience possible. That said, the film actually isn't bad, not good either, but I was entertained at times and not bored stiff at others. The acting was real good by the versatile Kidman, and Bullock (Hope Floats) did a fine job as well, but as I stated earlier she has had this part before. Back to the story where we skip ahead to when the little girls have grown up and Kidman's character Gillian, or Jellybean, has gone off to wonder from man to man while Sally Owens, played by Bullock, has stayed home and gotten married, had a couple kids, and is about to open a botanical shop. Then all hell breaks loose as Bullock's husband dies and Jellybean is stuck with this guy Jimmy who wants her forever and is willing to kill her in order to do this. So Bullock and Kidman kill Jimmy on accident, bring him back from the dead, kill him again on purpose, and then hide this fact as an Arizona Lawman named Gary Hallet, portrayed by Aidan Quinn, tries to find out where Jimmy went. In the process we learn a bit about witches and the undead slash spirit world. As all this is happening the girls two aunts take off so that Kidman and Bullock's characters will get themselves out of trouble instead of bailing them out, and it is also to trick Bullock into practicing magic, something she rarely does in order to be normal.

Practical Magic, directed by Griffin Dunne, has some laughs, a few special effects, a couple sad moments, and some romance. Unfortunately the trailers have most of the funny stuff, so there is little comedy left to laugh at in the theater. If you want comedy watch something else, if you want nudity, watch something else, if you want romance watch something else, and finally if you need to watch a fantasy that's not rated triple X, then watch something else. But if you want a little bit of all of those areas then, Practical Magic might be for you. So now it's finally time for the Out & About movie review rating for Practical Magic, so here goes, four. That's right, four couches out of ten on the old scale. I have been Mike Stevens for the Out & About movie reviewing couch, well actually the couch doesn't even get to watch the movies, people do, but I think you get the idea. Anyway goodnight.
