Great acting, big explosions, graphic violence, great sex scenes, spectacular special effects, and a captivating story. Well, Home Fries has none of these. In fact the movie was rather forgettable. Hello and welcome once again to the Out & About Movie Review and I am your host Mike Stevens, actually since this only for the web I'm not really hosting on TV. Home Fries stars Drew Barrymore (Ever After) as a pregnant young woman whose child becomes fatherless when the daddy turns up dead in a field after a heart attack. But what is strange is that he is literally scared to death by his own two stepsons flying a National Guard attack helicopter. Then the really strange and dumb things start happening, not that what had already happened wasn't strange or dumb. Anyway the two stepsons, played by Luke Wilson and Jake Busey, and who are controlled by their mother, played masterfully by Catherine O'Hara, must now get rid of Barrymore's character due to a couple of reasons (that I won't go into). And then here comes the hitch, Luke Wilson's character falls for Drew, who works at the local Burger-Matic. So in the end you have a guy trying to score with his stepfather's girlfriend who is pregnant with his stepfather's child, who would be this guys stepbrother. Only in America an only in Arkansas, or some other rural southern state. Home Fries is a really strange romantic comedy from the Warner Brother's Studio and is directed by Dean Parisot, I know I've never heard of him either. The film has a few funny spots but not enough to carry the picture. Basically you sit there for two hours wondering when Jerry Springer is going to pop out and give his closing commentary. It's just a strange film all around that just really isn't worth watching. So for the Out & About rating of Drew and friends in Home Fries I give it one couch and a Burger-Matic outfit. A better romantic comedy to watch is Hanks and Ryan in You've Got Mail. For the Out & About Movie Review I am Mike Stevens saying see ya later. Last updated: Thursday, March 20, 2008 02:45:21 AM |
