The Review:

Yep it's that time again, time for another movie review, and I think this time it's the Out & About review of Enemy of the State. Hello, I am Mike Stevens your host for this particular movie review. Enemy of the State comes to us from Touchstone Pictures and stars Will Smith as a labor lawyer named Robert Clayton Dean. Gene Hackman plays the elusive Brille, but I don't think he gets as much screen time as Jon Voight does. Voight portrays an evil, politically ambitious, and morally corrupt agent in National Security Agency. Actually he is higher up than an agent, but just under deputy director. Anyway Voight's character has an important senator killed to try and get a bill passed that would expand the powers of the NSA. Problem is that some bird watcher got the killing, which looked like an accident, on tape. So now the NSA is trying to kill this guy, but before that happens he passes on the video to Will Smith, but Smith doesn't know he has it. The NSA finds this out and then goes after Smith. Who in turn gets the help of Gene Hackman's character, who had been working indirectly for Smith as a PI getting dirt to use against the mob. Now that's all the plot I'll give away. Smith is great in the film with all his physical skills and comedic talents that he has displayed in movies like Men in Black and Independence Day. The movie moves along at a brisk pace so you don't get bored. There is a fair amount of action at times, though only one real explosion. This movie also brings up the real issues of privacy and who's watching those watching us, i.e. who makes sure the NSA, FBI, and CIA are doing their job and not implementing agent's personal agendas? I don't know the answer to that question, but then again this isn't the forum for that discussion. Anyhow I liked the movie overall. And so for the Out & About rating of Enemy of the State I give it seven couches out of ten. For the Out & About Movie Review I'm Mike Stevens, see later, but till then check out all the past reviews on the web at Out & About Online. Bye.
