Can't Hardly Wait. I never did figure out what the teeny boppers couldn't wait for, but alas it doesn't matter. I'm Mike Stevens, sit-in movie reviewer for Out & About with this review of the comedy Can't Hardly Wait. This movie, starring the white-hot, 19 year-old Jennifer Love Hewitt from Party of Five and I Know What You Did Last Summer, is set back east in suburbia at the end of the school year. The film opens at graduation where this guy Preston, played by Ethan Embry, finds out that this girl Amanda, played by the five foot two Love Hewitt, which Preston has had a crush on for several years, just broke up with her boyfriend. The other main thing the audience finds out at commencement is that there is going to be this huge party at this one girl's house. What follows is a laugh-a-minute look at teenage America in the burbs where love and sex are explored when the parents are away. There are lots of different sub-plots to keep the movie flowing including a nerds plans to humiliate Amanda's ex-boyfriend Mike Dexter because Mike has always been mean to the nerd. No way, a jock picking on a nerd! Anyway back to the story. Basically Mike dumped Amanda so he could sow his oats over the summer before heading to college and tries to get all his friends to do the same, but his friends don't want to, and eventually Mike realizes he is a moron and tries to get Love Hewitt back, but she doesn't take him back. All the while the nerd is setting his trap, but first tries alcohol for the first time, and let me tell you, nerds and alcohol don't mix, but it is pretty hilarious when they do, especially when he becomes a rock star. Another great story line going on is the girl with a yearbook played by Melissa Joan Hart from Clarisa Explains It All fame. Joan Hart tries to get everyone to sign her yearbook and displays toxic levels of enthusiasm and school spirit, so that you actually laugh and enjoy it when she goes flying through the air. Yet another great story is about two elementary school friends reunited in a bathroom where they are imprisoned by bad luck. The goofy looking gansta wanna be Kenny, played by Seth Green, and the Daria like Denise, played by Lauren Ambrose, finally work things out after there friendship had dissolved after moving on to junior hi. Which reminds me, I'm sorry little Johny that I stopped being your friend, but I ain't doing what those two did to make up. Other little things that show up are an angel stripper, the cops, and even Jerry O' Connell from Sliders & Scream 2 makes an appearance as a former high school legend who hit bottom at college and gives Mike Dexter some time tested advice about the shower. I really enjoyed myself at this film and seemed to laugh the whole time. I give the flick eight couches out of ten and recommend seeing it before its to late, but unfortunately I think Can't Hardly Wait will end up being like Clueless where it's not nearly as funny the second time around, so I don't plan on seeing it again. Great movie and lots of laughs, well worth the arm and a leg it costs to get in. Now back to the host of the show.
