The Review:

Remember Woody and Buzz in Toy Story? Well they're not back in Disney's latest computer animation film, A Bug's Life. Hello again to all of you watching at home or via ESP, I am your movie dude, Mike Stevens with another edition of the Out & About Movie Review. A Bug's Life was created by the folks at Pixar and starring an ant named Flik, who's voice is provided by News Radio's Dave Foley. You see Flik's ant colony lives on a small island in a river that must provide food for the mean and nasty grasshoppers each year. But Flik isn't your average ant, see he doesn't conform and just go with the old status quo. He is an inventor and thinker, which usually gets him in trouble, especially when he is trying to impress the princess who he ahs a crush on. This Princess Atta is trying to learn how to run the colony from her aging mother. Princess Atta's voice comes from Seinfelder Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the queen's voice is that of Phyllis Diller. The evil leader of the grasshoppers is, well Hopper, to which Kevin Spacey lends his voice to. As to the plot, Flick accidentally losses all the food that is supposed to be for the grasshoppers, so he is exiled, where he tries to come up with a plan to rid his colony of the grasshopper menace once and for all. So off to the city he goes where he meets a bunch of circus bugs who he mistakes for warrior bugs. The circus bugs think they are getting hired to perform for the ant colony and Flik thinks he has found bugs that can beat the evil Hopper. As one might imagine, when all of this is discovered the circus bugs try to leave, but Flik convinces them to stay and help him with a plan to eliminate the grasshopper problem. Other famous voices in A Bug's Life are David Hyde Pierce as the stick bug Slim, Denis Leary as Francis, and Roddy McDowell as Mr. Soil. The film is directed by John Lasseter and Andrew Stanton, who added a few "out-takes" for the credits, I mean "out-takes" because obviously cartoons don't screw up scenes like real actors can. I just have to mention that there is no nudity is this G picture. In fact the word shoot is about the naughtiest word in the flick, that's short for picture not the name of the star. But as to the film, which I thought for an animated film was pretty good, and I'm not a real big fan of animation for the big screen. But enough about me, time for the rating. I give A Bug's Life six couches out of the ten possible couches on the Out & About scale. So it is probably still worth going to the theater to see after all these weeks. And remember to stay after to watch the credits. For the Out & About Movie Review I have been your guide to the movies, Mike Stevens, see you all later.
