Review:
The only reason I am reviewing this kiddy
film is, it is a box office hit. I personally dislike watching
these types of films because they tend to be lame and there is
never any nudity, and I like nudity! As to the film Spy Kids, it
begins with a normal family with two kids and a mom & dad. We
learn from mom (Carla Gugino) that she and Mr. Cortez (Antonio
Banderas) used to be spies for opposing countries, but the
children still do not know this. However, they will soon learn
this because mom & dad come out of retirement for one more
mission, and they get caught. So it's the spy's kids to the
rescue. The youngest is Juni (Daryl Sabara) who is a wuss, but a
creative and intelligent boy. Carmen (Alexa Vega) is the older
sibling who always has to keep an eye on her brother, and she
resents this. The rest of the movie is a visual effects show that
demonstrates all sorts of spy gadgets that the studio is sure to
market to the kids and earn some extra revenue. One last bit on
the plot: The kids with a little help here and there are out to
fight Fegan Floop (Alan Cumming) and Minion (Tony Shalhoub) over
the third brain and the two evil ones plans to use it to make an
army of children to take over the world, ha ha hah! The only
others really worth mentioning in the film are George Clooney (maybe
a minute of screen time), Teri Hatcher, Cheech Marin, Robert
Patrick, and Danny Trejo. Spy Kids was written and directed by
Robert Rodriguez. The film is just fine for those under the age
of about 15. Now I did hear some adults laughing and enjoying
themselves during the movie, but all I could think about was how
lame the jokes were. I'm guessing that these same adults are also
quite fascinated with light switches (ooohhh, light). So no, I
didn't care for Spy Kids. But I am keeping in mind that I am not
the target audience, so I give Spy Kids four couches out of ten
for the About-Movies.com rating. Adios.
