Review:
This Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy collaboration should have (given the comedic talent of the two) made an absolutely hilarious picture, but it does not. Now this is not to say that it isn't funny, just not as funny as it could have been.
We start off with Robert Bowfinger (Steve Martin) of Bowfinger Productions looking over a script, for a sci-fi movie, and declaring that he finally has a script for making a picture. He then calls together his people for a meeting the next day to tell them all that the long wait is over and to get ready to make a movie. So Bowfinger heads off to get Jerry Renfro (Robert Downey, Jr., I can't believe they let him out on work release to make movies) to greenlight the film since Renfro is a big producer. Renfro says yes if Bowfinger can get the hottest action star, Kit Ramsey (Eddie Murphy) to star in the title role. Of course Kit doesn't want anything to do with the B picture, so Bowfinger decides to make the film anyway with his own money, only about $2,000. But in order to get his other actors to believe that a studio is bankrolling the film, Bowfinger uses Kit in the film, but does not let Kit know this. This last bit complicates things for Kit since he is seeking therapy with a cult because of his paranoia and delusions concerning aliens.
While production is going on Daisy (Heather Graham) is busy sleeping her way to the top of the production company so that she can get more scenes, which works. And then we also have the emergence of Kit's brother Jiff (also Eddie) as a double for Kit.
Others in the film are Christine Baranski (Carol), Jamie Kennedy (Dave), Adam Alexi-Malle (Afrim), Kohl Sudduth (Slater), and Terence Stamp (Terry Stricter) as the head of the cult.
You would expect all of these plot twists to be completely hilarious, but they are not. In fact the whole movie is just mildly amusing. Plus you have Heather Graham's character sleeping with just about everyone in the movie, and quite frankly I was jealous, I wanted Daisy all for myself! That aside, I rate Bowfinger a four out of ten for the About-Movies.com rating. Goodbye.
